Dear Admission Officers of Master of Science in Accountancy:

I would like to make an inquiry concerning the application for your Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) program. I am a senior undergraduate student in Finance (my GPA is 3.5/4.0, my TOEFL score is 95 and GMAT score 730). However, I am very much interested in your MSA and I wish to apply for the program. I have some basic training in accounting and have attended 2 courses—Financial Accounting and Computerized Accounting.

However, as a student of finance, I have substantial training in finance, covering nearly 20 courses that include: Money and banking, International Finance, Corporate Finance, The Modeling of Financial Times Series, Commercial Bank Management, International Investment, Economics and Business Research Methods, International Financial Management, Corporate Financial Strategy, Investment, Public Finance, International Trade, Security Investment Analysis, Financial Derivatives, Financial Risk Management, Law of Corporate Finance, International Economic Law, Business Law (final year). In addition, I have also attended 5 courses in Economics—Microeconomics, International Economic Law, Political Economy, Macroeconomics, Econometrics.

In addition, I have attended five core quantitative courses—Advanced Mathematics (I), Advanced Mathematics (II), Applied Statistics, Probability and Statistics, Linear Algebra.

I would like to know if my academic background as described above can qualify me to applying for your MSA program. I realize that my foundation in accounting is insufficient, but I plan to take several accounting courses in the final semester of my undergraduate program so that I can strengthen my accounting foundation. Nevertheless, in my academic transcript for the past three years, there are only two accounting courses and I want to know if I am qualified to apply and if my background in finance and mathematics can compensate for my weakness in accounting.

I am truly interested in entering your MSA program and your kind reply will be highly appreciated.

Attached is my Official Academic Transcript for your reference.

Yours sincerely;

Ting Cheng

Hello Ting Cheng,

In response to your question, anyone is qualified to apply to our program regardless of whether you have an accounting background or not. If you are accepted, you will be required to take some prerequisite courses at our school in the summer.

As to your transcript, I am not allowed to look at any transcripts that do not come from WES systems.  Please do not mail them either.  Please refer to the Schools of Business website for specific information regarding applying and materials to submit.

Have a good evening,

XXXX X. Administrative Assistant

DearTing Cheng,

Thank you for your interest in the MS in Accounting program. We require that you have the prerequisites of Intermediate Financial Accounting prior to applying to our program. The two classes you have described for accounting do not meet the criteria for this course. We encourage you to apply to the program once the prerequisites have been completed.

Hi Ting Cheng,

Thank you for your interest in the Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) at XXX University’s XXX School of Business (Xxxxxx Campus).

Eligibility:  Students may apply to the MSA program after earning a bachelor’s degree in business (4-year U.S. equivalent) from an accredited college or university or during their senior year of college.  Work experience is not required.  This full-time program can be completed in one year.  There is no spring admission.  Students must have an undergraduate degree in business and complete the prerequisites at their home university or a regionally accredited institution.

I hope this helps.  If I can be of any further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

B
