Personal Statement
Program: Economics, Accounting, Actuarial Science

I can claim to be an excellent student with self-confidence. As a primary school pupil I was frequently awarded with Sino-ROK Education Foundation scholarships. At middle school I was awarded honors as Student of Merit at provincial and municipal levels for four consecutive years. Thanks to my exceptional performance in coursework and overall development, I was qualified to study at the Middle School Attached to Northeast Normal University, a national key middle school. There I ranked first in my grade. Active in all fields with extensive hobbies, I seized prizes in violin, dance and calligraphy contests and assumed positions as student official, editor and journalist. In writing I was naturally endowed. At seven, I began publishing articles, winning awards in writing compositions at all ensuing grades. In 1999 I became a special columnist for some magazines. By now I have published two collections of personal essays.

In computer science I began systematic learning of computer programming language when I was a primary school pupil. I ranked first in the “Jilin primary and secondary school students’ computer operation contest”. After entering the secondary school I began teaching myself Pascal language and took part in the Jilin provincial and national youngsters’ computer contests with outstanding attainments. In 1999 I obtained the Internet senior operator certificate jointly issued by Jilin University and the US Landscape Internet Service Center.

The shaping of perfect personality calls for combined influence of Oriental and Western education. It necessitates the harmonious unification of diametrically different Oriental and Western cultures in my mentality. After middle school education in China, I have been studying at Cambridge Tutors College, a famous independent high school in Britain, since 2001. The completion of basic education in China gave me a full understanding of the ins and outs of Oriental Culture and laid for me a solid mathematical foundation. On the other hand my studies in Britain let me take wings in the English language. Presently I can easily communicate with British teachers. I can easily read and write in the English language. Furthermore, the study environment abroad offers more chance to combine theory with practice, stimulating me to further creativity and imaginative power.

Confronted with higher education options, I am targeting the United States as my destination. There I shall not only be able to learn more specialized knowledge and contribute more to China’s social development, but also to more deeply perceive the innovations and freedom in Western Culture to perfect personal character and personality.

In Britain I began studying economics and accounting, such as finance accounting and management accounting, and became highly interested in them. Economics is as abstract as it is realistic; it is infinitely mysterious playing a tremendous role in economic development. It provides a highly interesting field for academic probe. Therefore I wish to apply for economics, accounting, actuarial science in my further education. This discipline is very demanding but I believe I am fully prepared. At Cambridge Tutors College, I have achieved straight A’s in the A-Level exams of four major courses (Statistics, Mathematics, Accounting, and Economics, with full marks in two of the three units for each exam.) While enhancing my learning capacity, I have developed sound study strategies. I am enthusiastic about new things and have an excellent capacity of accepting and understanding them. Above all I have a wide range of knowledge. This is the guarantee for my future studies.
