Why do you want to do an MBA at LBS at this point in your life? What will you do if you are not offered a place on the LBS or any other MBA? (500 words)

The main reason that I wish to pursue my MBA degree with the London Business School now is that I feel that I have gone about as far as I can go in my career with my current level of knowledge in business. I hope to achieve greater personal career development in a world of rapid advances. Certainly my business experiences have taught me much about the way the business world works, but to reach my full potential I must learn the theories behind good management strategies. During my eight-year career with Fujitsu Ltd. in Japan, I accumulated valuable experience in the semiconductor and telecommunications industry while simultaneously rising through the ranks from my position as a mere technician to becoming a member of management.

In 1999, I returned to my homeland and joined SVA Group, where I was given the responsibility of setting up a new subsidiary, SVA Communications Company, Co., Ltd. In only two years, as deputy general manager, I helped to grow the company from a small team of employees to a medium sized company with dozens of subsidiaries and over two hundred employees. I was promoted to general manager of SVA Group’s subsidiaries where I learned all aspects of work in a fast developing high tech enterprise, including technical management, enterprise decision-making and operational management. This experience made me realize my true career objective: to form a management and consulting company to assist small to medium sized Chinese enterprises, particularly those in the high-tech industries. My goal will be to bring their business practices up to international standards so that Chinese companies can compete in the rapidly changing global business environment.

I have decided that this would be the best time for me to earn my MBA degree to realize my future career objectives. My business experiences have taught me the importance of capital in enterprise decision-making and how important it is for companies to conform to standard international business practices. Your MBA program can give me insight into the best ways to manage capital. Additionally, I learned that as our business grew, my lack of systematic and comprehensive enterprise management knowledge limited my ability to run the company. Through the study of theories and case studies in your MBA program, I know that I can gain the necessary knowledge to launch my own management and consulting company with the goal of assisting others. I have chosen LBS as my top priority because it emphasizes teamwork, international background (80% students coming from other parts of the world), European alumni. Those factors will make my studies highly fruitful.

Because LBS is the only business school that I have applied to this year, it would be very disappointing if I am not accepted to your school. I would re-evaluate myself and realistically analyze the reasons for my failure in not earning a place in the London Business School MBA program. However, I would not give up my dream of an MBA education. I have learned in both my business and life experiences that you can never give up, no matter how hopeless the situation may seem. I would apply again, either to LBS or to other high quality MBA programs. I have realized that my future career objectives depend a great deal on the successful completion of my MBA education.
