Five years of formal training is the emerging standard for education in professional accounting. The Master of Accounting program (MACCT) admits students with undergraduate business degrees or the equivalent from accredited schools. This one-year 30 credit hour program custom designs a curriculum for each student to ensure breadth in business and an appropriate specialization in accounting.

Students completing the MACCT program would be qualified for advanced careers in accounting, consulting, or continued graduate study. Students must meet qualification requirements to sit for the United States CPA examination to receive the MACCT degree.

MACCT Curriculum
Prerequisites: must be completed prior to beginning the MACCT program.
•       Financial Accounting (Freeman School ACCN 2010 & 6010 or equivalent)
•       Managerial/Cost Accounting (Freeman School ACCN 3010 & 6020 or equivalent)
•      Intermediate Accounting (Freeman School ACCN 3100 & 4110 or equivalent); or three semester hours of graduate intermediate accounting.

Core MACCT courses (18 credit hours):
•       Ethics in Accounting and Finance
•       Auditing
•       Advanced Financial Accounting
•       Advanced Managerial Accounting
•       Business Law
•       Tax Planning for Corporate Decisions

Freeman's Master of Accounting program is custom designed to enable the student to sit for the CPA in the state of their choice. Each MACCT student will meet with a faculty advisor to develop a curriculum that specifically meets the needs of the student to complete MACCT requirements, and to enable the student to sit for the CPA examination in the state of intended practice. Graduates of the program must be qualified to sit for the CPA in order to receive their degree. While considerable flexibility exists in selection of courses, individual state requirements may restrict the elective opportunities or increase the individual requirements for completion of the MACCT degree.

Freeman's Master of Accounting program is custom designed to enable the student to sit for the CPA in the state of their choice. Graduates of the program must be qualified to sit for the CPA in order to receive their degree. While considerable flexibility exists in selection of courses, individual state requirements may restrict the elective opportunities or increase the individual requirements for completion of the MACCT degree. Applicants must either hold a bachelor's degree or expect to receive a bachelor's degree before they commence the MACCT program. Applicants are expected to have completed prerequisite courses in financial accounting, managerial/cost accounting, and intermediate accounting. An undergraduate degree in accounting is not a prerequisite for the program.
