Some Important Explanations for my Visa Application
(Submitted for Visa Application)

My Persistence for and Sincerity in Pursing a British Education

If you refer to my previous record of visa application activities, it will indicate that I have so far had three unsuccessful attempts to apply for the visa in order to seek education in the UK. The first two attempts occurred in the first and second semester when I was in the second year of my senior middle school. The third attempt happened in 2001 when I was just starting to embark on my undergraduate program. As the program required strong proficiency of English in order to excel in academic performance, I applied for a UK visa in order to receive more effective trainings of English language in the country where English language was originated so that I could do a good job in my studies. Although the UK generally welcomes Chinese students to study there, the repeated failure of my visa application attempts has been very discouraging and disappointing to me. Nevertheless, I understand that there must be underlying reasons for the visa officers’ rejection of my application requests and I have been making efforts to improve my personal situation in order to meet the requirements adequately for going to the UK to pursue the kind of education that I am interested in.

Since my last visa application, several years have passed. Yet, the passage of years has not in the least undermined my determination to strive for educational opportunities in the UK. This determination came into being when I first started learning English and has been reinforced as I have ever delved deeper and deeper into my studies. Even the repeated discouragement resulting from my visa application failures has not weakened my persistence with which I have preparing for my educational goals. All my endeavors should testify, unequivocally, to my sincerity and my faith in seeking a quality education which only the UK can offer me. I expect that such sincerity should be duly recognized and encouraged. It should be fairly clear that receiving education in the UK means so much to me.

The Differences between my Previous Attempts & the Current Attempt of Visa Application

Looking back on my past attempts of visa application and the current one, I believe that many important changes have happened. Whereas the previous attempts were all aimed at seeking language trainings, the current application is designed to complete the final phase of my undergraduate programme. As I have made it clear in my Study Plan, the undergraduate programme that I am now working on is a Sino-British joint programme and consists of two stages, a two-year stage in China Agricultural University and a one-year stage at University of Luton. In terms of English language training, if I had gone to the UK, the results should have been more satisfactory. But since I was denied such opportunities, I have availed myself of such trainings in China and through my assiduous efforts I have also improved my English considerably. However, my final-year study must be performed in University of Luton and I can seek no other alternative in China. The failure to go to Luton will produce utterly grave consequences to me — I will not receive my Bachelor’s degree and all my academic efforts in the past years will be completely wasted. This would mean a most serious personal disaster for me.

Consequently, compared with my previous attempts, I am now much more goal-oriented. I must make all my efforts toward the educational goal that all my peers are entitled to. In addition, I am most strongly motivated because my study at University of Luton will be absolutely crucial; it determines my future, my personal and career development.

My Family Background and the Financial Guarantee from my Parents

I come from Shenzhen City, the first special economic zone in China which opened to the outside world in China’s reform and open-up campaign. It enjoys the most vibrant economic development in China. In its receptivity to western influences, it is only second to Hong Kong. In this economic hotspot, my father, a veteran from army, is now a senior engineer in a local enterprise in Shenzhen where he receives generous salaries. Financially, our family is quite well off and this financial condition can perfectly support my studies in the UK. I should thank my parents who, having achieved fulfillment on the material level, are truly concerned with providing me with the best education available. Therefore, seeking education in the UK is not only my own dream, but also the dream of the two generations of my family members who regard a proper education more important than anything else.

What I Can Contribute to the Student Community at University of Luton

For me, going to the UK to pursue education will not simply be a one-way process—just receiving input without making any contributions. Instead, it will be an interactive process—I will have a lot of important things to contribute to the student community at University of Luton. Although my GPA is not exceedingly high, I have been playing an important role all those years in plenty of extracurricular activities on my campus. From 2002 to 2003, I was awarded two first-class scholarships for arts and sports respectively (only two students out of a total of 400 were eligible). I was honored as Outstanding Student Official of the University for the academic year from 2003 to 2004. Since Sept. 2003, I have been serving as head of the Sports Department of our college’s Students Union and as such I have organized the students in our college to participate in the university’s sports meeting, launched numerous sports events including basketball matches, football matches, rugby matches, winter sports events, etc. Moreover, my friends and I started a club in 2001—The Sunshine Outdoor Activity Club for College Students—and we organized outings and field trips to the suburbs, enriching the campus life of the students. In all those activities, I improved my interpersonal communication skills and organizational capacity, as well as my leadership and the readiness to work for the public welfare. Once in University of Luton, I am prepared to continue making my contributions in those regards so that I can be a worthy member of the student community there.
